Transmutation: A Bay Area Student Exhibtion

Friday, May 30th - Saturday, June 7th

First Friday Reception: June 6th, 5:00-7:30pm

SCAL is proud to host a wide variety of exhibitions spanning many mediums, themes, and age groups. We are especially happy to be providing a space for upcoming artists through our several exhibitions aimed at showcasing the work of young adults and teens. Our UCSC Student Exhibition, Curate This!, is a 1 week show curated by UCSC interns and open to all Bay Area college students to submit artwork.

We are thrilled to work with UCSC on several exhibitions and give college-aged artists a chance to be featured in a professional gallery.

On this year’s Theme:

The term transmutation is one with a multitude of interdisciplinary connotations, having associations in alchemy, philosophy, physics, and the arts; all of which have been used by human beings to make sense of the world and their place in it. We understand this more simply put though, as a change or permutation. Transmutation in this sense is a dual phenomena, embodied through a culmination of transformation and destabilization. Change is a constant and inevitable process that everyone undergoes; through Transmutation, we invite both artists and audiences to consider an alchemy of the self, the concept that we as organic entities endure a never ending process of metamorphosis and becoming, internally and externally.
