“Community Members In Bloom” Art Card Demo with Hajra Meeks
Friday, November 28, 3pm-5pm
Free to attend, and decoupage supplies will be provided! If you would like to use other mediums, please bring your own supplies.
In an upcoming free demo on November 28th at SCAL, Hajra Meeks will be using SpectraFix fixatives and medium/varnish (FinalFix spray, Natural Glass spray) to make decoupaged holiday cards on blank Strathmore greeting cards with decorative papers. See how SpectraFix medium/glue/varnish/fixative works and make a fun little art project at the same time--maybe it'll inspire you to make a whole stack of unique, handmade holiday cards! (See free SpectraFix review video for more info.) Or if you're a SCAL member, you may choose to use SpectraFix (which is now also at Lenz Arts!) for decoupaging a floral subject for your upcoming "Members in Bloom" art project.
If you are a SCAL member working on your "Members in Bloom" project for SCAL lobby's wall display:
Which flower do you imagine yourself as in the coming New Year? Maybe you have some favorite flowers or plants already.
If not, you can peruse this handy, thorough list of plants and their historical symbolism for inspiration! Explore which flower or herb symbolizes you, a loved one, or your wishes for the New Year.
Next, if you want to make a collage flower, follow the decoupage instructions below, using scrap or decorative papers on your little card from SCAL.
And you are not limited to decoupage or collage florals--maybe you want to use pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, pastel, or ink.
You can even use watercolor, gouache, acrylic, or oil if you prep the card with ground or cut out and glue a small artwork on another substrate onto the card.
The card is small, so you can do a looser artwork, or work in detail if you like working in miniature sizes.
Some decoupage florals (rose and dahlia) cards, as well as watercolor, gouache, and ink-&-wash flora are below for inspiration!
For a decoupage floral card:
Use some cutout pieces of decorative paper or magazine scraps to assemble a collage on your card from SCAL. You can be spontaneous and random or planned and purposeful in your design.
Then use SpectraFix FinalFix or Natural Glass as an adhesive to glue your paper pieces onto your card to make a "flower mosaic." See examples of a rose and dahlia using various metallic design paper cutouts below.
Show up for the free live demo on Nov 28th at SCAL for step-by-step instruction, card project templates, and also the necessary art supplies for FREE to make some decoupage greeting cards along with your Members in Bloom card as desired!
