Get ready for our most exciting event of the year!
When Your Name is Called, the Piece is Yours!
Artists and art-lovers look forward all year to the Santa Cruz Art League's biggest event! Luck of the Draw is our annual fundraiser, where ticket-holders take home original works donated by artists in our community.
Imagine winning an original, one-of-a-kind piece of artwork while simultaneously supporting the arts in our community. With each ticket, you’re entered into a thrilling raffle where, when your name is called, you get to choose any of the available artwork right off the gallery walls! Plus, with each ticket you buy, you’ll be supporting the Santa Cruz Art League and our ability to serve our community.
We hope to see you there!
How it All Works:
Submitting Artwork
The 2026 artwork pledge form will open on September 1. At that point, artists can send in the information for any piece(s) they wish to donate. All artwork is generally accepted, however SCAL reserves the right to decline donations for any reason. You will be bale to pledge pieces through our Open Calls page.
Artwork drop off:
Wednesday, October 23, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Thursday, October 23, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Friday, October 23, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Submissions will remain open until the last drop off day, 10/23. Artwork can be donated on the drop-off days without completion of the online pledge form, however we highly encourage artist to fill out the form in advance in order to expedite their drop-off process. Artwork will not be accepted at drop-off if it is not gallery ready.
Buying Tickets
Ticket sales will open several weeks before the event. Tickets can be bought online on this page, in person at our office, or over the phone during our office hours. SCAL office hours are Wednesday - Saturday, 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm and our office staff can be reached by phone at (831) 426-5787.
There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be bought by one person. Buy multiple to increase the odds of winning your top choices!
Viewing the Artwork
The donated artwork will be on display in our gallery from Wednesday, October 28 through the day of the event. We highly encourage ticket-holders to visit the gallery and create a list of their favorites, or “Wish List,” so that on the day of the event they can be ready to claim their top choice! If you can’t make it in person, we’ll have a virtual gallery online for you to peruse as well, however we recommend viewing in person as the image quality provided by each artist may vary.
The artwork will be numbered - please make note of the numbers associated with each piece you like so that you can refer to them easily during the event.
At The Event
During the event, our MCs will be drawing names one by one from the traditional and iconic Luck of the Draw top hat. When your name is called, you will have 30 seconds to call out the number of your top choice piece. There will be handy board at the front of the room that will display the remaining numbers so you can easily see which pieces are still available. We highly recommend coming to event with a list of your top choices so that you can easily decide in the moment.
Once you choose your piece, it will be taken to the back room by our runners and labeled with your name. You will then retrieve it at the end of the event and take it home with you!
Proxy System
Not able to make it to event on November 7 in person? That’s no problem! You can still win a piece of art through our proxy system. Simply provide our staff with a list of the pieces in the gallery ordered from top choice to last choice by the proxy deadline of 5:00 pm on Friday, November 6.
If you neglect to list every piece in the gallery, your proxy list will still be accepted. However, by doing so you will be giving permission for SCAL staff to select a piece for you in the event that your list has been exhausted by the time your name is called. A “Staff Picks” list will be posted here once the exhibit is open which will show the order that we will choose pieces on behalf of proxy ticket-holders whose lists have run out.
