PAINTING THE HEAD AND FIGURE IN OILS with Warren Chang

Materials List

I suggest you bring your own easel setup.

SUBSTRATE: Canvas or panels. One 11” x 14”, One 12” x 16” canvas. Tone the canvas a warm gray. See link to video demonstration

Brushes: A few Bristle brushes in Bright or Filbert sizes 2, 4, 6.

Optional: I use Silver Bristlon, Brights 1902 size 2, 4 and 10. Its a good idea to add some sable or synthetic sable brushes as you progress as well as for details.

Limited Oil palette:

Lead White (Titanium white ok)

Yellow Ocre

Terra Rosa (provided)

Burnt Sienna (provided)

Burnt Umber (provided)

Raw Umber (provided)

Ivory Black (Bone black in Rublev Natural Pigments)

Note: I use both Winsor Newton and Rublev Natural Pigments brand oil paints.

Wooden Palette. Approximately 12” x 16” (You’ll have to apply a varnish to seal the wooden palette, such as shellac)

Gamsol for cleaning brushes and thinning paint.

I use only Linseed oil as a medium.
