Artist Bio:
Visual art is like music for the eyes. I try to look for the rhythm, composition, tone, mood, and emotion--all shared by music and photography. When I view my world, it's always through an imaginary lens, always aware of how I can compose it into a piece of art. It's why I always have a camera within reach, whether a Nikon SLR or an iPhone. And then I work on it with Photoshop, refining contrast, color intensity, composition, and other elements. It's like a painter continually improving an image with each brushstroke.
Professionally, I started at ten years old, using an old Brownie camera and printing crudely produced photos in the cellar. I took up watercolor in high school. When I realized I didn't have the hand for it, I returned to "painting" with my photographs. At UCSC, I majored in art, doing my studio work in photography and managing the college photo lab. After graduation, I realized that I couldn't support my kids with an art career, so I went into corporate communications. On retirement from Silicon Valley, I returned to photography--my first and lifelong love. My special pleasure comes from photographing my travels (especially Italy), street life, vignettes, landscapes, and anything else that speaks to me. My work is collected by people in California, Washington State, North Carolina, New York, New Mexico, Alabama, Italy, and many other places. In a sense, I'm spreading the visual music of our lives.
