Anyone can paint watercolors when they know the magic of the medium! This class will teach you the secrets—everything from the foundation basics to more advanced techniques. You will learn how to:
- use the magic of the medium
- use different brush techniques
- mix any color
- paint people, landscapes, trees, and other things
- take advantage of the white paper
- achieve luminous transparent washes and much much more
In this hands-on class you will learn a variety of watercolor magic with this remarkable medium painting abstract, landscape, and still life subjects. You will paint lively watercolors to express your creativity and nourish your heart and soul. Whether you are painting in your home, traveling, vacationing, or on a weekend outing, you will easily be able to incorporate these skills. This class will prepare you for a lifetime of watercolor painting pleasure. Beginners and more advanced students are welcome. We will be painting from in class demonstrations and simple drawings you will make from the handout materials.
Instructor: Robert Regis Dvořák has been showing people how to have fun drawing and painting for 35 years. He is a watercolor artist and public speaker on the subject of creativity in education and business. He has worked as an architectural designer and is a former professor of architecture at the Universities of Oregon and California, Berkeley. He is the author of six books on drawing and painting: The Practice of Drawing as Meditation, Drawing Without Fear, Experiential Drawing, The Magic of Drawing, Travel Drawing and Painting, and The Pocket Drawing Book.
Materials: A small watercolor block. 7” x 10” or one sheet of watercolor paper 22” x 30” torn to 8 sheets of 7 1/2” x 11”. A palette of watercolor paint or a watercolor pan set. A round watercolor brush #10 or #12, or a Chinese calligraphy brush. A flat 1” brush or a 1” Hake brush. A No. 2 HB Pencil. (sharp). A kneaded eraser. A pint jar for water. A cotton rag. Some tissues. A comprehensive handout will be emailed to you and you will be required to print it out, in color if possible.
