Painting flowers in watercolor can be learned by anyone.  This class is for you if you:

  • Have had some previous watercolor painting instruction.
  • Would like to be able to paint flowers in watercolor.
  • Would like to learn some easy techniques for making your flowers glow.
  • Want more confidence and skill painting flowers simply and beautifully.

This online workshop will provide a sequence of easy exercises designed to give you skill and success painting flowers.  The class will focus on the spontaneous representation of flowers rather than an attempt at careful realistic representation.  There will be a strong emphasis on the use of white space and composition.  The workshop will also cover: layout, composition, color mixing and blending for light, shade and shadow, brush techniques, graded washes, lost and found edges and more.  No matter how much previous instruction you have had, this workshop will have you painting flowers simply and beautifully.

Materials: Have your watercolor painting materials and some flowers (if you can)

Watercolor paint, palette, brush(s), a number 2 HB pencil, water container, cotton rag, kneaded eraser,  and watercolor paper, one full sheet torn down to 8–7.5” x 11” sheets or a watercolor block of 140 pound cold pressed paper.  7” x 10” or 9” x 12”. Robert will be demonstrating with the following colors:  Permanent Rose, Vermilion, Aureolin Yellow, Yellow Ochre or Raw Sienna, Viridian or Hookers Green, Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue, Burnt Sienna.  Students are not required to have these colors. Just use what you have.

Handout: A handout will be emailed to each student to print out prior to the first class session.

Instructor:  Robert Regis Dvorák, FAAR, has been making drawing and watercolor painting fun and easy to learn for 35 years.
