Fundamentals of Realism I-Evening Series

Levels: All Levels

Offered: 4 Wednesday Evenings, starting 2/5/20, 5:30-8:00pm

Instructor: Laurel Bushman

Location: Santa Cruz Art League

Over the course of this 4-week series, students will learn fundamental elements of realism drawing, composition and technique. Emphasis will be placed on how to be organized and have flexibility in the drawing process. These skills will translate across media and help students create any type of artwork they choose to in the future. After completing the class, students will have tools to successfully create skillful drawings, ways to make their compositions interesting and effective, and inspiration to go home and make great work on their own.

This class also prepares students for the following series, Fundamentals of Realism II starting 3/18/20 where students will build on, and improve their skills learned in this series.

Laurel Bushman is a Santa Cruz based artist whose love for drawing began as a teenager when she first encountered figurative realism. As a student at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Laurel studied painting, drawing and art history. Using her understanding of foundational drawing techniques has allowed Laurel to express her ideas across multiple platforms, including painting, murals and more recently, caricaturing. Laurel’s teaching philosophy is one of openness to innovative ideas. Both she art and her teaching are fueled by inspiration from a broad spectrum of influences, while being fundamentally rooted in the fine art tradition.
